After a long long battle with the bathroom, doing the floor, changing our mind on certain things… the tub is finally in and the cement board (I was going to use kerdi board instead of hardie backer, again – changing our mind) is treated with Redguard and ready to go. As hard as all that work was, the tile is where I am intend to proceed with the most caution. I do have a borrowed hand held wet tile saw, but bought a 6.5A 7 inch table top Diamondback wet tile saw from Harbor Freight (my favorite cheap tool store). I did buy a nicer blade which was around $35, some reviewers said the blade was bad or “ok,” and I want a great blade. Everyone seems happy with the saw itself in general.
I was hoping to have the tile in this weekend, but the tile will have to set for half a day or so before I can take out the 1\/8th inch spacer clips. Then the grout has to go in, so that is a 1-2 day ordeal just to get everything installed\/set\/ready to roll. The tile saw is setup with the new blade, but this being monday and people having to get to work\/school the next day means the shower must be used with the Redguard as the primary water protection. Wife has cleared me though to do this all next weekend given that the shower would be out of service for about 2 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The amount of labor in this project has been incredible, the demo project itself was intense even with the purchased hammer drill (which was awesome). Walls were not plumb, 2×4 and 2×6 were found in the wall with huge notch cuts, the 2×6 had approximately 4″ notch cuts which makes the thing about as valuable as a toothpick. So adding a lot of new boards and outright replacing most, re-routing electrical and replacing knob and tube wiring wherever possible took a bunch of time too. Anyhow going to sign off, lots to clean and prep, and I have a topcase that I want to put on the motorcycle before tomorrow so that I don’t have to wear my backpack while commuting – it’s the season of sweating and with my long commute I’d like to make it a little more pleasant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
